We recharge our cell phones and our laptops – even our iPods, but do we ever take enough time, or put enough emphasis on recharging our own batteries? We often plan holidays that are supercharged with tee times and organized events and sure, they’re fun and memorable, but I have to wonder – do we take enough unstructured time to just be? I had the opportunity, thanks to some wonderful clients/friends, to spend a few days on Hornby Island this past long weekend. One foot off the ferry from Denman and the change in pace in the air is palpable. Sleeping in the sea air with ocean breezes, hiking yellow grass cliffs, collecting shells and stones on the beach, swimming in the ocean, and the company of dear friends……my batteries are recharged and I wonder if I have finally learned and can remember the valuable lesson that my batteries need recharging too. I think the renewed energy and state of mind can’t help but filter down into our working lives and our work is all the better for it. I have decided that this premise is going to be part of my business coaching (not just for my clients, but for myself as well!).
