Don’t set goals! Unless… Don’t you get a little tired of people telling you that this is the time to set goals for the coming year? I know, I know…I’m a coach and I should be encouraging you to set goals. Goals are important and this time of year is a good time to set out what you want to accomplish, but goals are not worth the paper they are writtenon if you are not motivated to achieve them and you don’t have a plan.
What motivates you? For me, when I make something a challenge, I come alive. Ask my assistant, friend and golf buddy, Tamara. Put a quarter on a hole and suddenly it’s the Masters at Augusta. The two words that motivate me to focus and set out to do what I need to do are “game on”. I love the interest and intrigue of any game; make a game of it and I’m all over it.
If you are even a little bit competitive or you just like games, set yourself challenges this year instead of goals. Or maybe there is something else that really gets your mojo working, like a reward of some kind. Whatever it is, sure, go ahead, set some goals. Then add the challenge.
This is going to be an exciting year for Business Bootcamp for Dentists. There are some major changes in the works to transform Bootcamp from a stand-alone program to a one-stop resource for dentists to go to for learning basic business skills, leadership & management how-to’s, and access to webinars, useful tools like contracts, performance review templates and more, as well as access to group and private coaching. This is a big challenge and one that I am driven to achieve this year. I think it’s about time that dentists had one place to go to get help with running their businesses and being great leaders.
I have made this a personal and professional challenge and my enthusiasm is palpable! I can’t wait to get this up and running! What a great way to feel about a new goal! What would motivate you to do the same? Set one goal for the new year right now and make it a game or attach a reward. Game on!
