Dentists do not have to reinvent the wheel to run their practices smoothly. Dentistry is unique in many ways, and yet the business principles that apply to running a successful practice are universal. Why not borrow tried and proven best practices from one of the most efficient business models in existence? The franchise business model is successful and streamlined and has a lot to offer dentistry.
Applying these tested principles to your dental practice will enable you to enhance patient numbers and loyalty, streamline running your practice, motivate and keep your staff and increase profitability. The secret is in translating these principles into application in the dental practice and that is what I am going to do for you.
“Consistency” noun– conformity in application, or levels of performance that do not vary greatly and can be repeated.
Consistency is the number one reason that franchises work (ask Ray Kroc Of McDonalds’s fame ). It is their holy grail. And there is good reason for it: it taps into the very essence of human nature and psychology! We humans seem to have an inherent need to know what to expect. When what we expect differs from what we get, there is dissonance. Dissonance is a state of mind. Just as water always wants to find a level, when we experience dissonance, our nature drives us to try to find equilibrium and bring things back to normal. Think of how you respond to conflict, when you lose something, or when you are not understood. The process of trying to restore consistency produces frustration, nervousness, anger, stress, and lack of focus.
Ray Kroc understood that people wanted to know that they would receive the same product quality and service no matter which McDonalds store they walked into. That took out the guess-work for the customer, relaxed them, and made their experience more…..well, consistent!
If you, as a dentist, can add consistency to your patient’s experience, the operations of your practice and your leadership,
- you will have happier, more relaxed, loyal patients,
- operations that require far less of your time to manage, and
- happy, motivated staff.
